National Trust Holiday Cottage
Penparc is a comfortable detached house built between 1905 and 1911 and was originally two cottages. The walls are of snecked (irregular rough stone) masonry with a distinctive terracotta hipped roof. Located right on the edge of the Dinefwr Park on the outskirts of Llandeilo accessed by a rough track, the cottage has wonderful views into the park and you will often see grazing animals. Dinefwr offers a national nature reserve, historic house and 18th-century landscape park, enclosing a medieval deer park. There are walks directly from the cottage and an enclosed garden to enjoy. With fascinating power and influence for more than 2,000 years, Dinefwr is embedded in the history of Wales. Two forts are evidence of its Roman past. The forward thinking George and Cecil Rice designed the superb 18th-century landscape that you will see today. Newton House offers visitors a distinctive experience with exhibitions that tell the story and inspire visitors to explore the castle and park. Carmarthenshire is one of the old counties of Wales and is known as ’The Garden of Wales’; a haven for visitors looking to mine rich traditions and culture, to explore landscapes and stories and taste the rich flavours of this very special region.
Llandeilo itself offers an array of pubs, restaurants and cafés and has become a hub for those seeking out more individual chic shopping. Visit the National Trust Dolaucothi Gold Mines (tours available year round), Carreg Cennen Castle, and the National Botanic Garden of Wales with its vast glass dome. If beaches are your thing, Carmarthenshire offers some of the most glorious sandy beaches in Europe. There are miles of coastal paths to walk or cycle too. The mountainous region of the Brecon Beacons is also within easy reach and is known for its spectacular natural landscapes. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Gower Peninsula to the west and across the lush Usk Valley to the English border to the east. Beach 24 miles. Shop and restaurant 1¼ miles, pub ¾ mile.
